About the creators
The Author
Monica Blackburn was born and raised in Almonte, where she met and married her husband, and raised her children. As the Children’s Librarian at the Mississippi Mills Public Library in Almonte, her favourite part of the job is reading to children during Storytime. She met the illustrator and his family as regular attendees at those Storytimes, where Sam proposed working on a children's book together. Collaborating on Do it, Earl! Do it! seemed like a natural progression for Monica – to say nothing of the fact that she has wanted to write a children’s book since she was six!
The Illustrator
Sam Hamilton is a freelance graphic designer living and working in Almonte. This project was in part a means of staying creative between jobs while making something his children could enjoy. The illustrations were done with Staedtler liner pens on illustration board, scanned, and digitally coloured. Sam stayed close to his subject matter and spent much of his time sketching and drawing in his backyard or at the very least, by the window in the sunshine. In fact, one or two of the final pieces have tiny squashed bug stains. Now that's authentic! For more examples of his work, visit his portfolio website: { www.samhdesign.com }
